Heal Thy World

Posted on

There’s a place in
Your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could
Be much
Brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
You’ll find there’s no need
To cry
In this place you’ll feel
There’s no hurt or sorrow

There are ways
To get there
If you care enough
For the living
Make a little space
Make a better place…

Heal the world (flash PeeWee + Dexter‘s hand/paw pix here)
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire doggy race

There are Mongrels dying (flash gross pics here)
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me (flash happy dogs and owners here)

If you want to know why
There’s a love that
Cannot lie
Love is strong
It only cares for
Joyful giving
If we try
We shall see
In this bliss
We cannot feel
Fear or dread
We stop existing and
Start living

Then it feels that always
Love’s enough for
Us growing
So make a better world
Make a better world…

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire doggy race

There are Mongrels dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

And the dream we were
Conceived in
Will reveal a joyful face
And the world we
Once believed in
Will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep
Strangling life
Wound this earth
Crucify it’s soul
Though it’s plain to see
This world is heavenly
Be God’s glow

We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart
I feel you are all
My furkids
Create a world with
No fear
Together we cry
Happy tears
See the nations turn
Their swords
Into plowshares

We could really get there
If you cared enough
For the living
Make a little space
To make a better place…

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire doggy race

There are Mongrels dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire doggy race

There are Mongrels dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire doggy race

There are Mongrelsdying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

There are Mongrels dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

There are Mongrels dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

You and for me
You and for me
You and for me
You and for me
You and for me
You and for me
You and for me
You and for me
You and for me
You and for me
You and for me

A Cry For Help: Sheila

Posted on

Sheila was left behind in an old house when her family moved away without her…

She woke up one morning to find that everyone and everything was gone. Gone from the house, and gone from her life…

Sheila THEN

When Sheila was found, she was severely emaciated, having only folds of loose skin hanging onto her bony skeletal frame. She was practically reduced to nothing but skin and bones! (Can you see the ridges of the spine jutting out?)

It is a miracle that she is still alive in this condition! If I were her, I would have died of a broken heart even if I did not die from the hunger or diseases. If her previous owners can’t bring her along to the new house, then the very least have the decency to find her another home! Is that too much to ask for from a dog who has spent the last 8 – 10 years with them?

I’ll raise my fat, middle finger to anyone who said, “It’s only a dog whaaaaaaat

So what if it’s only a dog? Won’t a dog feel scared, hungry, lonely and pain just like anyone of us?

Sheila was rescued and fostered under the ASD program. She has since gained back her health and weight. Although the scars on her body may be gone, but the emotional scar in her heart may take a much longer time to heal.

Sheila
NOW…

Sheila is now ready for a new lease of life. Look at that sparkle in her eyes and the smile on her face and compare that to the previous picture above when she was just rescued. Would you give her that chance to experience love… and cuddles once more?

Have a heart please!! If you can help, please email to info@asdsingapore.com or call 9259 0698 for adoption enquiries. If you can’t adopt her, you still can help by sending a cheque for her medical expenses. No amount is too big or too small because it’s the thought that counts! Details are at the link below.

Heritage Fest: Fun On Foot

Posted on

On Wednesday, Bad sms-ed me that there would be a FOOT Fest on the 22nd (which was yesterday) and needed volunteers to help out with the event. I thought that she had mis-spelt FOOD as FOOT and so, I agreed with it.

Yesterday morning, we met 6.30AM at Lavendar MRT Station.? Imagine how early I had to wake up to reach there? Actually, I only slept at 4AM, but I woke up at 4.30AM and left the house at 5AM to take the first train to Lavendar.

I fell into a deep slumber all the way on the train. I could have a very good sleep actually, but unfortunately, the Indian man sitting beside me had with him many, many packets of Roti Prata (enough to feed the whole village!) and the smell was so strong that I was ‘choke’ awake several times. I like Prata. I really do! But to inhale such a overpowering smell at 6AM in the morning when you are trying to sleep is plain nauseating!

I reached Lavendar MRT Station exactly at 6.30AM on the dot and Jannah was already there. Soon, the rest came and we proceeded to the Jalan Besar Sports Complex. Why would a FOOD Fest be held at a sports complex?? Shouldn’t it be held at either Suntec or Expo??

It was only then I realised that the FOOT Fest is indeed FOOT Fest and not the FOOD Fest as I had thought it was.? This event is actually one of the activities organized by the National Heritage Board for the Heritage Fest. This was something like the Amazing Race where participants had to solve the clues given to them to proceed to the next station within Jalan Besar and Balestier.

We would be the Station Masters at each alloated points to wait for the participants and direct them to their next location. Unfortunately, I was assigned the task of logistics and I had to stay behind. After briefing us on our roles and duties, we were promised of breakfast cum lunch and that brought a smile to my face.

Before the event started, I have to double up as a road marshall and stop the vehicles from coming into the stadium as well as to direct the invited VIPs and the Minister, Mr Lee Boon Yang.

Mr Lee smiled and waved at me when his car drove past.

After giving his speech and watching some performances, Mr Lee officiated the start of the race. We quickly pack up everything and drove to the ending point at Balestier where we unloaded everything that we had just uploaded into the van and it was really hard work!

By then, it was already in the afternoon and the breakfast that we were promised in the morning did not materialize at all! The lunch, Chow Mien, came quite late and it tasted awful!

I can cook nicer Chow Mien than that!

After a while, the first group started coming in and we distributed the goodie bags to them. We were kept very busy as the participants keep coming in continuously after them to collect their goodie bags.

All of us were totally exhausted at the end of the day. My shoulders were strained and I stretched my neck muscles.

The event was not totally unfruitful though. At least now I know where is Urban Pooch, Sun Yat Sen Villa and that very nice Fish Head Steamboat recommended by Lingzhi and Chongqing from 933FM the previous night!

An outdated post

Posted on

This is an outdated post of some pictures which I had taken during a trip to Malaysia last month.

Dim Sum – breakfast for the day…

Everything is filled with pork and it got quite gross after a few bites.

The famous tua tua liap Amy Yip  pau.  It’s bigger than my clenched fist and four persons can share one!

Tear it open and… more pork!

The not very nice Wanton Mee

with it’s not very nice Wanton wrapped with… pork again.

Spiral…

Incense burning, bringing luck and fortune to the devotees.

Rustic kampong house

Locally produced Pong Piah

and other traditional biscuits…

Miss this?  I don’t.

And this? I like this.

We went to the Dragon King Temple by the beach.

Ah Hay , Ah Long and Ah Ku.

Hand-tamed Araipaimas reared by the temple…

We went to another temple where it sell this triple scoop ice cream. Nice.

Lotus at the temple. See? Got bee too!

You don’t have to be a photography club member to take this lotus.

Mongrel kept by the temple people…

Another sweet looking mongrel…

A Dexter look-alike…

Follow Up

Posted on

I returned to NUH for my follow-up and I got a shock when I saw many people crowding round the entrance.

I forgot that there is an island wide SARS Precautionary Exercise today!

How could I forget about it? I just saw it in the news last night!

So, I queue up and wait for my turn to have my temperature taken. It delayed my appointment with the doctor by 20 minutes!

There’s nothing much to be said about the check up. It’s always the same procedure every time: wait for the nurse to call me to do the eyesight test, wait outside, wait for doctor to call me, doctor drip yellow liquid into my eye, yellow liquid stinging my eyes like hell, doctor shine bright light into my eyes, doctor ask me to “Open Wide, Open Wide”, my eyes teared, doctor give tissue, doctor ask me wait outside, wait for nurse to call me to pay up, nurse gave me new appointment date to come back check up, go home.

No scrapping tests results, no photographs of my eyes to show me, no nothing.

The black sheep

As I was going through the forum, I encounter this thread:

“these pple can really spoil your day sometime…
rmb got one uncle scold me coz i nvr clear up elmo’s pee…
i got nth on hand lor, and he expect me to clean up the pee..and not like a lot..abit only…
got me so angry~~”

The fact is her dog did pee in public and it’s not a matter of whether the dog pee alot or a little. She have the social responsibility to clean up after her dog no matter what/where/when. It’s plain civic mindedness.

All it takes is one irresponsible dog owner to bring down the whole community.

“i understand that, it’s just that it’s at the void deck, so i really got nth on hand and it’s not like you bring a mop around to clean up their pee, so he’s gotta understand, and the very fact that he was just sitting there and my pup wasnt disturbing him at all.”

Sad to say, not everyone are tolerant towards animals. By law, she is already in the wrong for (1)allowing her dog to pee in a inappropriate place and (2)not cleaning it up so base on what grounds does she wants the uncle to understand her problem? Don’t always take it for granted that other people have to put up with her. I myself as a dog owner is irked to see such ‘accidents’ at the void deck and pavement let alone the majority who doesn’t like dogs.

Singapore is not exactly a dog friendly place to start with so all I can say is, being dog owners, we are the ones at the losing end should someone make a complain against us. Hence, it is not advisable for us to offend anybody. There are always the non dog loving community around wating for every opportunity to make trouble for us so it’s prudent to save our own ass, or rather, save our dogs by cleaning up after them.

“no lah, i kua zhang abit mah…
i bring plastic bags for his poop, but got no tissue on hand de lor…

i nvr complain or what, i just told him to give me some time lor…
so i went upstairs to take tissue and then go down clean…clean in front of him…

but i really thought it was ridiculous…coz it’s not really that practical to clean up pee, especially downstairs.”

Hello? Public place Not public toilet. What’s the issue of bringing a extra pack of tissue if she’s already had a plastic bag with her? What’s so ridiculous about cleaning up the mess which her dog has just created? If the pee is in her own house, does the same rationale applies? No? Why the double standards? doh.gif
I always arm myself with a poo bag and some newspapers when we went for walkies.

Someone else retorted:

“i ask u, hw do u clean up e pee?! .. use tisuee? or?!?!”

She can use newspaper to soak up the pee or pour water to wash away the pee? My dog is trained to pee on the grass only so I do not faced such problems.

We always complaint that Singapore is not exactly a dog friendly place (I just did ) but did we turn back and look at our own actions?

WHY SHOULD SINGAPORE BE A DOG FREINDLY PLACE IF DOG OWNERS THEMSELVES ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH FOR THEIR OWN PETS??

Seriously, I don’t know what’s wrong with these people? How could they deem cleaning up after their dogs as ridiculous? If it’s helluva hassle to clean up after their dogs, then it’s helluva hassle for them to keep a dog!

“While keeping pets is beneficial to the owner in many ways, pet ownership brings with it certain obligations and responsibilities ?both to the pet and to the community. Responsible pet ownership means knowing your pet’s needs and looking after its well-being. It also means keeping your pet under control and not letting it dirty or disturb the neighbourhood.” – AVA

The weird Pizza from that *Hut*

Posted on

Went for dinner at that particular Hut with Mizu. Yes, that was less than 4 days from my last visit to the branch at Orchard. We tried the Cheesy Bites Special and truth be told, there was nothing special about it except maybe for the shape. It had many pockets containing 3 different types of cheese and surrounding the entire circumference of the Pizza.

We waited about 20 minutes for our Pizza but it was warm when it arrived and the cheese was hard to chew.

The Hut at LOT One sure has got some of the most clumsy staffs around. From the time we got seated to paying our bill, we have been hearing the clattering and breaking of plates and glasses at least 5 times.

Overall, the food and service was so-so only and I wouldn’t return to the Hut anytime soon.

I would still vote for the Pizzas at Rocky Master and Lips Cafe.

The weird Pizza which resembles a Sunflower

It’s a Hawaiian Cheesy Bites Special Pizza

See how thin the Pizza is… Maybe that’s what makes it ‘Special’?

This Hut’s Platter is way better than the Pizza itself but very, very expensive!
