Laputa is really good!
Pazu rescues an unconscious girl descending from the night sky with a glowing pendant around her neck. He helps the girl, Sheeta, to escape from the air pirates and the military who are obsessed with Laputa, a legendary kingdom on a floating island in the sky with which Sheeta is suspected of being connected.
With an adventurous boy as the main character, Miyazaki tells a story that involves discoveries and wonderful encounters, a story that carries a message of hope.
This may be an old film of Studio Ghibli but I love it for it’s engaging plot! In fact, I like all the Studio Ghibli‘s productions which I’ve watched like My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Laputa.
There are still some of their productions which I have yet to watch but next on my list are Princess Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies.
The Laputa OST is pretty nice! No matter how many times I listened to it, it’ll always bring tears in my eyes…
I LOVE STUDIO GHIBLI!
They themselves are involved in the theatre/drama works so should be familiar with the basic etiquette of watching a musical. This is NOT a private screening for them so all the more they should be discreet of their behavior.
Anyway, Jack & The Beansprout was really good! I would say it is wickedly funny and Ivan Heng definitely lived up to his reputation as the rubber-faced Jim Carrey of the local theatre scene.
His sibey heow (coquettish) rendition as Widow Neo was hilarious as he juggled between three jobs as a junk mail distributor, Tiger Beer auntie and MLM sales representative just to send her good-for-nothing school-dropout son, Jack (Sebastian Tan) back to school and to pay off her debts with tua hiiiia (Big Brother), the loan shark from Batu Pahat.
When tua hiiiia comes aknocking, Widow Neo was left with no other options but to make Jack sell off the bilingual family pooch, Ah Cow. When Jack returned with a bagful of Dream (Green) Beans instead of money, he was embroiled in an ginormous (mis)adventure involving a giant taugeh which reaches into the clouds, Bamboo, the Housekeeper, a snoring Giant who wears CROCS shoes, a Singing Harp (touch meeee!) and a Goose that lays Salted Eggs, Century Eggs, Easter Eggs and Golden Eggs.
Come join the rest of the kaypoh neighborhood as Jack and Widow Neo rediscovers the true meaning of happiness, kinship and of course, love and acceptance.
Here’s Widow Neo and her neighbours galloping away on the iGallop.
I especially like this line from one of the song when Jack was asked to kiss Bamboo to prove his love:
“wah lau! wah kau! wah piang! like that call love meh?”
It has been a turbulent year for me and I don’t wish for anything. (as if anything that I wished for would come true!)
Oh well, I have a very un-Christmassy Christmas this year just like the year before, and the year before that. No well-wishes, no card, no nothing¡
There is no festive mood at all and I have not even been to town to see the Christmas decorations! The whole morning was spent watching Animax on SCV. They are showing this Cardcaptor Sakura marathon and I ‘ve watched almost 20 episodes of the anime back-to-back!!
I’m not a fan of the show but I find it quite nice. There was nothing else to watch on TV so I just watch it lor.
I woke up this morning feeling terrible. My asthma is coming back and I have a lot of phlegm. My chest feels so painful when I tried to cough them out.
Tomorrow is Sunday and I still have to work. Why does this damn attachment seems to last forever? I still have two freaking more weeks to endure!!
Anyway, exam results are finally out. I’ve got an A for OFC and EFC but a B for SES. I have studied sooooo hard for it but I still couldn’t get an A!
GPA is only 3.6 and I’m very disappointed with myself. I’ve tried very hard to excel but it seems I’m just destined to be a failure.
