Link Up For Qishan Abused Dogs

Posted on

I came across this upsetting plea for help from a Taiwan dog welfare group known as the Kaohsiung Concern Stray Animal Association (KCSAA).

They are running out of food supplies and resources therefore sending out this plea for help.

You can help by linking up to this project (via your Twitter, Facebook, Plurk, Blog), and *HILLS will help feed the dogs.

*HILLS is the company that brings you Science Diet

Their goal is to reach 10, 000 links.

It doesn’t cost you an arm or a leg to spread the word so start linking today!

The actual website is in chinese so I’ll try my best to translate the following…

Dog carcass discarded in the drain

On the10 July 1998, KCSAA in Kaoshiung, Taiwan
rescued hundreds of abused dogs from a puppymill farm. Breeds that aren’t profitable had their food supply cut off and left to die of
starvation. Carcasses of the smaller breeds would be thrown into the drains while larger
breeds would be left to decompose at one corner.

Most dogs don’t even get to eat leftovers like this

為什麼會有棉花在籠子裡呢?走近一看才驚覺這是一具只剩皮毛及不成形的屍體…
Why is there ‘cotton’ in the cage? A closer look reveals the fur left behind after the carcass decomposed…

I checked my mail and came across this very heartwarming video from www.hua.org.  Do sign up for their mailing list if you want to know more about the terrible things going on in the puppymills.

“It’s true that you can’t “save them all.”  But you can – like Wilson’s family – make a difference to one dog and that dog will reward you with a lifetime of love.”

Wilson‘s story really touched my heart.  They all have the potential to be someone’s best friend but how many of them had that chance to prove it before being euthanised?  I was especially affected by the words at the end of the video.

“I am only one,
but still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
but still, I can do something.”

How Much Is That Doggy in the Window?

Posted on

by Janet Crease

How much she is that doggy in the window, the one with the waggely tail…

“Can we take it home with us mom?”

“How much is that doggie in the window?”

“For you lady it’s fifty dollars” says the shopkeeper.

“So expensive” says Mom. “Oh well, I guess it’s something for the children to play with over the holidays.”

“A home at last”, thinks Puppy to itself.

“What’s that on the carpet?” yells Dad.

“Where are my sneakers?” says Son.

Chewed sneakers, a puddle of pee on the carpet, a steaming brown pile of something in the corner, whining and crying from Pup

“Put that thing outside” yells Mom.

“I thought this was going to be a great place” thinks Pup, shivering and wet outside. “Everyone is screaming, yelling and kicking me, I just needed to pee!”

“Put that dog on a chain” yells Mom, and leave it there.

More whining and crying from Pup.

“Shut up! Shut up!” yells the family and the neighbours.

Days later, peace and bliss reigns once more in the household, kids watch video games, Mom and Dad go about their lives. Life has got back to normal for the family.

“Anyone seen the dog?” asks Dad. “No? Well, put some food out the back, it will come when it’s hungry. Did it eat its last meal? Stupid dog, doesn’t know when it’s well off.”

Tired, cold and hungry, Pup finds itself in the back of a truck and then at the Animal Shelter.

Pup thinks to itself, “This is better, food, water and no kids to pull me around and a nice warm secure place to sleep. Heaps of company, I want to stay here forever”.

It’s Xmas holiday time, the Shelter is overloaded, too many dumped and unwanted dogs.

“Hello Puppy” says the friendly vet. “Now, this won’t hurt a bit, just a little sting.”

“Night night Pup” says the attendant for more times than she has wished to utter those final words, as she cradles the puppy against her. “Off to the Rainbow Bridge”.

Family at home. “I wonder what happened to that nuisance Puppy. It was a real pain in the neck, all that mess” says Dad.

Peace reigns within.

How much is that Doggy in the window, the one with the waggly tail.

Petstore Puppy

PET STORE PUPPY
I’m a little puppy, so cuddly, sweet and small
I live inside a cage, you see at a Pet Store in the mall.

I’m not an only puppy, my sisters are all here.
My brothers, too, except for Ralph who died coz he was scared.

It’s lonely here at nighttime when all the lights go dark,
We tremble in our cages and we whimper and we bark.

But no one comes to hold us or pet our fears away.
We sit all night in terror til the store opens next day.

We don’t remember mama, left so far behind.
she did the best she could for us til Man said “It is time”

He crammed us all in cages too small for us you see.
We rode for hours; we could not help but lay in poop and pee.

And now we sit in a Pet Store where kids come taunt and squeeze.
They do not hear our whimpers or understand our pleas.

We’re miserable and it’s scary here we all would rather die.
But since we don’t we do our best to run away and hide.

I know you think my story too sad to leave me be.
You want to take me home with you, a happy little puppy.

But please, though it is fearful to live here against our will.
If you take me that leaves a spot another pup will fill.

You CAN stop our suffering but NOT by taking us home.
You must be strong and leave us here, unsold and all alone.

For if you do not take me, then another pup won’t come.
And maybe he will not be shipped so far away from home.

Though some of us may not survive the cycle ‘ere it falls.
If we DON’T sell, they will NOT need more puppies in these halls.

And if they need NO puppies, then the Man will NOT bring more.
Eventually, it CAN all STOP! You CAN close the door.

So when you see a puppy face so sad and sweet and small.
In a cage at a Pet Store at your neighborhood shopping mall.

The best thing you can do for him is leave him sitting there.
That is the best way you can tell all dogs how much you care.

“Drawn to a pet store window by a bin of wriggling puppies, the furthest thing from a customer’s mind is the origin of these cute bundles of fur. But by buying a puppy, often for a price of $500 or more, the consumer is unknowingly supporting a cycle of abuse that begins at the puppy mill.”

“No one has more power to fight puppy mills than the consumer. In each individual’s hands is the ability to stop the cycle of abuse that ends with the purchase of a puppy mill puppy at a pet store.”

Before I Go

When my life has reached its very end

And I take that final breath.

I want to know I’ve left behind

Some good before my death.

I hope that in my final hour

In all honesty I can say.

That somewhere in my lifetime

I have brightened someone’s day.

That maybe I have brought a smile

To someone else’s face.

And made one moment a little sweeter

While they dwelled here in this place.

Lord, please be my reminder

And whisper softly in my ear.

To be a giver, not a taker

In the years I have left here.

Give to me the strength I need

Open up my mind and my soul.

That I might show sincere compassion

And love to others before I go.

For if not a heart be touched by me

And not a smile was left behind.

Then the life that I am blessed with

Will have been a waste of time.

With all my heart, I truly hope

To leave something here on earth.

That touched another, made them smile

And gave to my life, worth.

I came across this poem and found it to be very meaningful. I would like to dedicate it to all the poor dogs imprisoned at the puppymills as well as those who have perished in this evil trade due to men’s greed and ignorance.

May God watch over those who are still suffering at the puppymills and blessed the souls of those who are dead. May God enlighten the people and let them see the truth behind puppymills so that no dogs should ever suffer again.

This is
how an ideal Fox Terrier should look like.

All 101 Fox Terriers
coats were very long, full of knots and fully covered in excrement.
These little dogs resembled something straight out of a horror film.
There were corpses of deceased dogs in different stages of
decomposition within a sea of filth, as the living dogs ate their
remains.

Blainville-b43

Yet this is how a Fox Terrier from the puppymill looks like…

Journalists from different media outlets, who were dispatched
to cover this story, were stunned by the abominable conditions they
witnessed. Overwhelmed by what they beheld, some
journalist began
vomiting!

Blainville-b42

Can you imagine what this
Fox Terriers’ ordeal at the puppymill?

Everywhere, dogs were stacked atop of each other in cramped
cages. In certain cases, dogs were unable to lift their heads because
they were jammed between the raised floor, resulting from the
accumulation of excrement and the top of the cage. Some of the dogs
were carrying three times their weight from all the excrement collected
in their hair.

Blainville-b41

This Fox Terriers’ fur is caked with faeces.

The SPCA was able to take charge of 35 of the
dogs immediately. Sadly though, the police sent the others to the local
municipal pound where 20 were euthanized. While the SPCA veterinarians,
employees and volunteers tirelessly examined, treated, cleaned and
cared for these poor animals, the SPCA inspectors were dispatched to
talk to the dogs’ owner to convince him to release the remaining dogs
to our charge, where they will remain for many months and possibly
years, until this case is heard by a judge.”

Sadly, this is what has been happening behind
the closed doors at the puppymills where numerous dogs were kept together and mate all day long to produce truckloads of cutesy little
puppies that you see in the petshop windows.

The reason why this is happening is because WE, the self proclaimed dog lovers are creating that god-damn demand which gives the puppymill operators an excuse to continue breeding their dogs under such hellish conditions.

Because of our own selfish desire to possess that endearing puppy in the petshop window, WE are creating that demand and in the process, banished their parents to a lifetime imprisonment
at the puppymill where they feel no love or even receive a tummy rub.

As long as the demand is there, the puppymill operators will carry on breeding the dogs. Only when the demand stop (ie, if we stop buying
from pet shops), the
puppymill operator sees no profit in the making,
only then will the supply (aka breeding and suffering) will stop because
NO DEMAND = NO SUPPLY.

Without a doubt, OUR hands are tainted with blood AND guilt!

It is so hypocritical of US, the self proclaimed dog lovers to keep whining all day long about about how evil puppymills were and
how sad it is for the parents yet we are still patronizing petshops and
even recommending people who are looking for dogs to “go check it out” at XXX petshop/farm. WTF?

There are already enough homeless
dogs at the animals shelters so why add more figures to the
statistics? Every puppy born robs a shelter dogs’ chance of
finding a home thus, I
would choose to adopt and give a new lease of life to a abandoned dog
instead of
becoming the puppymill operators’ accomplices in the evil trade.

dizang once said bukong.

Hence, bearing
the same faith in mind, my stand is
that I will never buy a puppy from the petshop unless the shelters are
completely empty.

Anyway, puppyhood only last a year or so. I
would much prefer to adopt an older, sensible dog who is already toilet and/or
basic obedience trained rather than a boisterous puppy which goes round knocking off furniture and pees/poo everywhere in the house.

They need OUR help and WE are their voices. Help them please! You can start off by saying NO to a petshop puppy. Encourage your friends to adopt instead of buying.

Come this
Christmas, do make a difference to somedogs’ life by adopting or simply taking part in the ASD Xmas Pledge Of Love.
